The Music of Nintama Rantarou

Nintama Rantarou: Original Soundtrack

This CD contains many great songs! The opening theme, Yuuki 100%, as well as the original version of Shiho Happo Hijideppo (a little slower than the version they use for the ending credits on the current tv series), and a slow version of Dancing Junk (the first ending credits). Also, the Nintama Family Goshoukai (Introductions) no Dan is a cute rap song, with a verse each for Gakuenchou, Yamada Denzou, Doi Hansuke, Yamamoto Shina, Tomomi, Yuki, Shige, Shinbe, Kirimaru, and of course, Rantarou. The last song, Nin Nin Nintama Ondo is the song used for the music video included on the 3rd series of video tapes, as well as for the ending credits of the movie (with the same music video, actually). If you want to buy only one Nintama Rantarou CD, this would be the one to buy. If you can find it, that is. I had to get mine from a used CD store.

Except for the tv size version of Yuuki 100%, none of the songs on this soundtrack are on the first soundtrack, making this a good companion CD. I think my favorite song on this CD is the seond track, Nintama Hoshuujugyou, in which the voice actors for Rantarou, Kirimaru, and Shinbei sing a parody of the Kunoichi's "theme". I also like Reggee de Hemuhemu because I happen to really like Hemuhemu's theme. Yuki has a different voice actress on this CD than on the first one. This is a fun CD.

The BEST part of this CD is the Dance Version of Shihou Happou. I also really love the character vocal songs. Tadashii Dengon is a cute song, where the kids are relaying messages and the messages get all screwed up, like playing the telephone game. I also think that Rei-ten (0 point) Champion is kind of cute. And I don't know if it's because I've been watching too much Ojarumaru, but everytime I hear them start singing the Marching Version of Yuuki 100%, for some reason I keep expecting them to break out singing the Ko-oni Trio song.

Nintama Rantarou: Original Soundtrack: On no Yon (OST 4)

There are only seven songs on this CD, and while a most of them are cute, none of them is a real "hit" (The Pikopiko version of Yuuki 100% sounds like a bad MIDI). Hemuhemu's Ekaki Uta is one of those songs that teaches you to draw cute animals using a little story. That said, there is one very good reason to buy this CD. As you can probably guess by looking at the cover, this CD is also a CD-ROM and includes a couple of Rantarou-themed games for the PC or Mac. Unfortunately, it seems that, for the Windows version at least, you need to have a Japanese operating system of Windows 95J or greater. At the very least I am missing a required DLL file, and probably even if I could get that DLL I still probably couldn't run the program. Once again, I'm finding a reason why I need to eventually buy a Japanese PC. Below is a scan of the b&w screen shots that came with the CD.

This is a CD that was very hard to find. Wai! It's got some of my favorite characters on the cover! Can you guess who? It's got some cute songs, including the Nintama Ekaki Uta (sung to Hemuhemu's theme, with Amako-sensei style pictures of Ran-Kiri-Shin to learn to draw), and some other cute songs. But I almost totally lost it when I heard track 7. It's Hemuhemu heming along to all your favorite Christmas carols (Jingle Bells, Silent Night, and Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer). I finally have something to play at Christmas parties, something to rival the Tenchi Muyo! Christmas album! Muwah hah hah hah!!
